The Canonical Scripture: Act 1.21(행록 1.21)

In 1894, the same year Sangje was teaching at His school, the political situation in the country became chaotic when Jeon Bong-Jun raised forces by gathering the followers of the Eastern Learning in Primordial Hill (Gobu) County. Jeon Bong-Jun and his men began raising a rebellion against corruption and unfair social practices. At this time, Kim Hyeong-Ryeol frrom Golden Ditch (Geumgu) County learned of Sangje's scholarly reputation. Kim Hyeong-Ryeol visited Sangje to ask Him to join him in a secluded place where they might avoid the policitical turmoil and study the classics. Sangje agreed to close down His schooland traveled to the Immortal-learning Hermitage (Hakseon-am), located in the mountains behind Copper Valley (Donggok) Village of Rainforest (Wurim) Township in Jeonju (Perfected Territory) County. Since the hermitage was quite crowded, He soon left for somewhere else, but nobody knew where He had gone.

이해에 고부인(古阜人) 전 봉준(全琫準)이 동학도를 모아 의병을 일으켜 시정(時政)에 반항하니 세상이 흉동되는지라. 이때에 금구인 김 형렬(金亨烈)이 상제의 성예를 듣고 찾아뵌 후 당시의 소란을 피하여 한적한 곳에 가서 함께 글 읽으시기를 청하므로 글방을 폐지하고 전주군 우림면 동곡(全州郡雨林面銅谷) 뒷산에 있는 학선암(學仙庵)으로 가셨으나 그곳도 번잡하기에 다른 곳으로 떠나셨던바 그곳을 아는 사람이 한 사람도 없었도다.
